Anodized Aluminium increases corrosion resistance and allows dyeing, with improved adhesion on the surface. The anodized aluminium layer is grown by passing a direct current through Sulfuric acid with the aluminium object serving as the anode. The current releases hydrogen at the cathode and oxygen at the surface of the aluminium anode, creating aluminium oxide on the surface.

Anodizing produces a tight but porous layer which requires a sealing process to close the pores and prevent further natural attack on the aluminium.
